Weltchys Notebook

Part Time Writer of Science Fiction and Fantasy. Hopefully a blog for Stories, both Long and Short

Well, I missed last weeks submission as I was too ill to get anything down on paper, so to speak. Had some ideas in my head when I saw the photo prompt on wednesday, then wham, thursday hit and that was me out for a good few days. I’m up and running however, and just in time for this weeks challenge luckily. This weeks story is something a bit more light hearted, so you will have to excuse the “Sheepish” grin I have whilst you read my latest submission.

Anyways, below is my 100 word (ish) submission to the Friday Fictioneers. Photo prompt this week is courtesy of Sandra Crook.

As always, comments are appreciated. I try to read everyone’s submission, but with submissions reaching triple digits each week, it’s sometimes difficult to get round to each one. Therefore, I tend to read those who I follow, or who like / comment my story. And finally, I also try for a random selection from the list.

The Friday Fictioneers are a friendly group of online writers from all over the globe who endeavour to create short but fantastical tales with which to enthral and inspire both reader and writer alike. The genres and styles of writing are varied, so there is something for everyone to be found within its midst.

Today, my people, we embrace a new world; a place of freedom with the right to choose who we are without fear of retribution.

Freed from bondage, we shall liberate our people, those still held in servitude, whilst striking against those who would oppose us.

No longer shall they deny us our basic freedoms. A roof for the night or even a warm coat.

And let us not forget the barbarism we have witnessed first-hand. The slaughter of children for food shall not be tolerated.

I, Lambicus, swear by all that is holy. Mankind’s reign of terror is over.

Excerpt from the Book of Holy Ramicles the First.

  1. All right! You win – I ABSOLUTELY LOVE YOUR STORY! Holy Ramicles the First. Wow – where have you been – You are so verbally clever it’s amazing. This was the most fun I’ve had since my grandchildren left this afternoon. You definitely have major talent. I’ll be laughing all night about this – my husband is going to read this too. GOOD JOB! Nan ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Very clever; the voice was just right too.

  3. The voice is perfect, Lambicus sounds like a great orator!

    • I too believe Lambicus to be a great orator. Even his name speaks of greatness. I guess that’s why his flock grows ever stronger. Anyway, enough sheep related humour, thanks for reading.

  4. Good job replicating the voice of some great old Greek or Roman orator. Ramicles the First was also a nice touch.

  5. Oh this was most excellent – very credible voice, and slaughter of children. A little bit Animal Farm, but let’s hope the sheep does a better job than the pigs..

  6. I could hear this being preached from the top of the podium. Not sheepish at all!

  7. Rise of the Planet of the Sheeeeep….Wait till Hollywood hears about this!

  8. The uprising of the herd. Nicely written.

  9. Dear Weltchy,

You got me with Ramicles the First. Clever!

  10. Weltchy, This document was no doubt found in some dusty corner of a museum and preserved for all posterity by some organization like the SPCA. This must have been a little-known rebellion as it didn’t find its way into the major history books, but that doesn’t lesson its importance. Humorous and well written. ๐Ÿ™‚ —Susan

  11. Love Lambicus – a very cleverly told tale ๐Ÿ™‚
