Part Time Writer of Science Fiction and Fantasy. Hopefully a blog for Stories, both Long and Short

So, a little bit about myself. Obviously, from the tag line at the top of this blog, I would hope you are aware that I aspire to be a writer, currently of the part time variety. My chosen genres are Science Fiction and Fantasy, influenced by three decades of reading and other such maligned activities; activities which I suspect are shared by the majority of, if not all Science Fiction and/or Fantasy writers. Authors which I find myself gravitating toward include Raymond E Feist, David Weber, Alastair Reynolds and RA Salvatore, their style of story telling, whilst middle of the road, being the style I would wish to emulate.

Beyond Science Fiction and Fantasy, my occupation is that of self employed IT Consultant and Architect. Based in the South Coast of England, my wife and I have two young and wonderful children, who are being a constant source of joy and inspiration.

Outside of work, I am a qualified Martial Arts Instructor and keen squash player, as well as enjoying such things as paintballing, computer gaming and the occasional visit to pub.

PS – If this all sounds a bit dull and boring, I would point out that a lifestyle full of risk and intrigue would leave little time for someone to blog, let alone write Science Fiction and Fantasy. In fact, I would hypothesize that leading such a boring life is in fact an enabler for someone to be able to write the exact opposite. Therefore, you should expect my writing to be explosive and full of twists and turns at the very least.

  2. Der Weltchy,

Your life sounds anything but boring and your writing won’t be either. Which martial art? I’m thinking Aikido, but there’s a wide array to choose from. Revel in your time. I look forward to reading more of your work.

  3. Thanks for the follow, Weltchy. I’m following right back. And your life looks like a very good life to me, hold on to it.

    • Thanks you the follow as well. Life is good, especially as we move into the summer period. Lots going on, new bathroom, house extension and new kitchen so lots of upheaval. But change is good. Change is healthy!

  4. There are only so many hours in any day, you seem to pack a lot into those hours. For me observing the world then telling or recording stories is rewarding. I started by making up stories for my children when they were young. Good luck with your writing.

    • Funnily enough, my eldest son regularly asks for “stories from my head”, for which I duly oblige, normally with a superhero theme. Thank you for taking the time to read and comment
