Seems I have hit a bit of a purple patch with regards to short story writing, so I thought it best to submit another 100 word (ish) submission to the Friday Fictioneers. As they say, make hay whilst the sun shines. Photo prompt this week is courtesy of Randy Mazie.
As always, comments are appreciated. I will try to read everyone’s submission, but with submissions reaching triple digits each week, it’s difficult to get round to everyone. Therefore, I try to read those who I follow, or who like / comment my story. I also hit a random selection from the list. You know know what gems you will find.
Finally, a short word on the weekly challenge. The Friday Fictioneers are a friendly group of online writers from all over the globe who endeavour to create short but fantastical tales with which to enthral and inspire both reader and writer alike. The genres and styles of writing are varied, so there’s something for everyone to be found within its midst.
“Tonight Gentlemen, we shall be as Gods!”
Arms held aloft, Jimmy smiled wickedly at those gathered round the candlelit table, ready to recite verse from his “appropriated” Grimoire. The book lay open, depicting a scene from Dante’s inferno, whilst underneath, an incantation was scrawled, seemingly in blood.
Looking to his conspirators, Jimmy nodded, confirmation that whatever came next, there was no turning back. Leading the cacophony, Jimmy began, his baritone voice commanding respect as the ritual was joined.
Voices raised, the table reached its zenith, only for an unexpected cough to stop the ritual in it’s tracks.
“Ok lads”, interrupted the Janitor, “Call it a night. Library closes in five minutes.”
